High, Higher, Eiffel

My first sight of Paris was the Louvre.  Ascending from the Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre metro we walked straight into the Louvre – with the rest of the world! We had a coffee and petite croissant at Café Marly while winking at the Eiffel Tower in the distance and sitting along the Louvre.  This was followed by an extended trip on the Open Top Bus for which we have a 2 day ticket.  Turns out today was a free offer anyway!

The Louvre, Champs-Élysées, Notre Dame, palaces and popular sights are good but the Eiffel Tower remains my favourite. It was completed in 1889 with the aim to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution and to demonstrate France’s industrial prowess to the world.  It was supposed to be demolished but thank goodness this mad idea was not executed and we still enjoy the sight of the Eiffel tower.
