At Hermanuspietersfontein Jan and Marie serve soft, thin, warm pancakes with some lemon and a nice crunch of cinnamon sugar.

Jan has been making these irresistible treats for over 20 years and learnt the tricks of the trade from his mother. The recipe was a Voortrekker original and was handed down from mother to son. Jan does not know exactly what makes his pancakes so irresistibly delicious but I suspect that practice makes perfect. Jan also says that there is no milk in his pancake mix. This keeps the pancakes economical and there are no complaints as market goers tuck into pancake stacks.
Dough is prepared the night before the Hermanuspietersfontein market and left over dough is never frozen or wasted. Jan uses spare dough to test this pancakes personally at his home in Gansbaai.
