A trip to Spice Route just outside Paarl is like a holiday but better. With one stop you stay for the day – relaxing or exploring. Grappa, schnaps, beer and wine for tasting with just as many food choices. We started with a tapas lunch under the oaks at the Wilderer’s La Grapparia. Tempted to stay the whole afternoon yet moved to action by ice-creams and chocolates crafted by DV Chocolatiers beckoning.
After a more-ish espresso and vanilla sugar cone it was time to taste four of Cape Brewing Company’s beers for R25 and receive a free beer making educational.

A quick walk through Barley and Biltong and Spice Route’s restaurant with a taste of Spice Route’s wines prolonged the pleasure.  Our visit was complete with a final stop at Red Hot Glass for a piece of delicate hand blown glass jewellery to remind me of this special day.  Looking up every now and again we had the perfect memory of mountain views, vineyards, people lounging on the lawns framed by Table Mountain in the background.
