The Delheim Vera Cruz Shiraz 2009 is a winner. One sip and there can be no argument that this is a five star wine. It is bold and beautiful. The tall, dark and handsome shiraz honours matriarch, Vera Sperling, and echoes the title of the property where the fruit is harvested – three kilometres from Delheim on Klapmutskop, between Paarl and Stellenbosch.
Vera Cruz might be remembered by some as a Gary Cooper movie and is also a port city in the Gulf of Mexico. The liquid Vera Cruz is at the top of its game. In the glass the dark colour of the shiraz is carried forward with aromas of pepper and spice followed by a rich mouthfeel. All in all a taste journey worth taking.
