Back Road to Bot River #overberg

Weekends are for taking a drive out.  Time to slow down.  Take things easy. Make sure you have a full tank, some cash, great music and then… take a #ShotLeft.

Bot River in the Overberg is just the place to relax.  In close proximity to Cape Town with enough wineries and good restaurants to be inspired and recharge. One of the area’s prime properties – Wildekrans – has wine, accommodation and a restaurant to sustain you for a relaxing weekend. I visited to taste their maiden vintage Pinot Noir – the 2013.

Friendly Leen Jonker has been with Wildekrans for 17 years and explained their latest wine addition in great detail. And yes, they only use French oak for the maturation of their wine.  The Pinot Noir test to another great collaboration between winemaker William Wilkinson and viticulturist Braam Gericke. Leen pointed out that partnership between these two might hold the secret to the great Wildekrans wine vibes. A partnership that has been celebrated when the Wildekrans Barrel Reserve Pinot Noir 2014 vintage received acclaim with Decanter and Michelangelo Awards.

Book the weekend of 28/29 October 2016 for the Bot River Barrel Race and Bot River Challenge – a mountain bike race and run.  Wildekrans should have their onsite restaurant open and ready for business for this activity filled weekend.  A weekend that begs for a trip to where things are slow and wines are good.
