Elim Wine Festival – Sip Sip Hooray

Elim is a 2 hour journey south from where I live in Hermanus.  This drive down south feels like a real road trip as the best way to undertake it is to start early and stop over in Stanford for supplies of the sweet and flaky kind.  The best time to make this voyage is during the Elim Wine Festival with the added motivation of good wine and food to look forward to.  This year the venue was Black Oyster Catcher.  The building has recently been extended and a major part of the work was finished just before the Elim Wine Festival.

There were enough Elim wines to make the Saturday go round.  Discovering new vintages was like discovering a whole new world.  Also – tutored tastings, live music, fynbos bouquets, food stalls and a programme which included border collies rounding up sheep.  Curious.  You could keep yourself busy sipping from one station to the next or you could just laze on the lawn watching the passing parade of wine enthusiasts.  Sauvignon Blanc ruled my day and the Elim Sauvignon world was big enough to explore.  So big and filled with so many wines that a follow-up trip is already on the cards.
