Looking for something new?  I found it on Saturday on the hills of the Hottentots Holland Mountains on the outskirts of Somerset West.  The brand new home for Idiom Wines at the Da Capo Vineyards.  Yes, it is a bit of a drive…BUT what you find at the end of the road is so worth it that you will want to stay.  The Bottega family has created a destination that speaks to anyone who appreciates wine, art and nature.  The building that is home to the Idiom Restaurant in itself is art.  Designed by Thomas Leach of Harbour House and Sirocco fame, it combines old and new.  Merges Italian roots with South African character.  Even the car park has a picturesque view of False Bay.  The property is speckled with art and the sculptures of Lionel Smit grace the entrance.  Stepping into the tasting room the vineyard-clad hills and Atlantic Ocean still frames the view.  In the restaurant there is more art and lots more good wine.  Three different food and wine pairing menus are available at the tasting counter and the one option is as delectable as the next.  This is a venue were you sip back and relax and forget about time.  My photo memories of the day does not do it justice but is worth sharing.  Thanks to Roberto Bottega for generously sharing the Idiom experience with us and giving us a taste of Italy in South Africa.
