Stanford Valley Manor House Lunch

Stanford Valley is situated in the Akkedisberg Pass about ten kilometers from Stanford – the perfect country lunch venue and weekend hideaway.  This destination is made up of a number of quaint cottages, a conference venue and a restaurant.  The Manor House Restaurant opens from Thursday to Sunday and patrons are treated to dishes created by the very capable Madre Malan.  A one page menu has enough choice to satisfy most tastes.  And tasty it sure is – every item on the menu looked yum.  The wine list offers many local wines as well as Villiera Tradition Brut in the smaller 375ml bottle which is just enough to celebrate the outing but drive home responsibly.  I had the prawn, chorizo and chilli risotto starter at R65 and the caesar salad at a very reasonable R75.  Coffee substituted dessert as I could not manage any more.  My espresso was superb thanks to an impressive coffee machine in the reception area.  With a lush lawn stretching in front of the restaurant the temptation was there to have a snooze in the fresh air but instead I took a walk around the interior to appreciate the art collection on display.  Friendly owners and staff make it easy to stay a little longer and plan the next visit.  There will certainly be a next visit, and a next.
