While the mother of all storms is brewing in the Cape final preparations for the fifth Hermanus FynArts festival are made. A definite highlight is the Sculptures on the Cliff which sets art off against the dramatic Walker Bay background inviting viewers to reflect on the sculptures and their geographical position.
These works of art will have a cold and wet introduction to their new environment but already many visitors have captured images to claim their bragging rights to the EchoLocation installation. Local artist Jaco Sieberhagen’s Whale Caller sculpture is a personal favourite at Gearings Point and very apt as the Southern Right whales have just started arriving on the Cape Whale Coast and the first whale watching boats will be going out this week ahead of the Hermanus FynArts opening on Friday 9 June. Timing is everything and as the whales appear at their allotted times the Hermanus FynArts Festival is just the thing to ward off the winter blues. With so much to do and experience there will hardly be time to feel the drop in temperature. Be sure to join the festivities from 9 till 18 June 2017 in Hermanus. #CapeWhaleCoast
