Sundays are about lie ins, driving out and pausing for a deserving lunch. Mostly it is about lunch. A country spot with a wholesome four-course Sunday lunch is the Botrivier Hotel. It comes with no worries about breaking the bank.
Just off the N2 between Grabouw and Caledon The Botriver Hotel has been going for close on one hundred and thirty years. Only neighbouring Houw Hoek Hotel plays in this league of well-aged establishments plating generous portions of traditional fare. Step inside to conjure up memories of a time gone by. Old fashioned furniture provides a setting for a hearty meal and a taste of local wines. Broccoli soup was followed by fish followed by a main with chicken pie and lamb. Dessert sealed the deal and we were ready to collapse. All this came with friendly service and a charge of only R145 per person. The bottle of Gabrielskloof The Blend went down smoothly and added just over R100 to the bill. Very satisfied we left Botrivier and took the road to Hermanus. An afternoon walk on the cliff path provided a comfortable end to a great outing.
Will have to visit!
