Zainie Misbach grew up in the Bo-Kaap. She went to school here and today she teaches others about the culture and food of this colourful culture hub of Cape Town. Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour is her business and she shares the kitchen with her son and daughter-in-law who are all involved in this business.
We met at Rose Corner Cafe where a samoosa served as breakfast before a walking tour of the neighbourhood. A stop at Atlas Trading Company had us in spice heaven. This business has been going for more than 70 years and has spices packaged for every cooking occasion. The Father-in-Law Masala is a favourite and was well inspected before we continued our historical walking tour which ended in Zainie’s kitchen where the action started.
