John Legend is in Cape Town, the Springboks are in Dublin. More importantly my sister is in Simon’s Town. She drove coast to coast from Langebaan to Simon’s Town and I am only too happy to meet up. We rendezvoused at The Meeting Place, a quaint eatery with gifts and decor items situated across the road from the Simon’s Town marina. After Peroni and chocolate cheesecake we walked about and explored town. It is here that the South African Navy’s largest naval base can be found and the famous Boulders Beach where Jackass Penguins nest is just around the corner.
Simon’s Town has significance for me because this is where I spend many a weekend at Boulders Beach. Where else can you swim with penguins racing past like mini torpedos? Boulders has an island feel and a day at this beach felt like a holiday. In the same style today felt as if I was a tourist in my own country. All only two hours away from my home in Vermont. Just goes to show you don’t need to book a flight to tour.
