Me neither. I haven’t even heard of the place before a young man visited Hermanus and told me he was from Guadeloupe. It’s a French island group in the Caribbean resembling a butterfly with the 2 largest islands separated by the Salée River.
I am told Guadeloupe is famous for its craft rum and a dance called the biguine, which is still performed in colourful Creole dress. Guadeloupe is best known for its beaches and it is the place for sun seekers to visit.
Sounds like an interesting place… this Guadeloupe!
