The Rivendell vineyards is a lush spot of green between Bot River and Hermanus. These roadside vineyards produce Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz grapes only. The fruit of which can be enjoyed with lunch on the premises where the Rivendeli is open 7 days a week. During the week light lunches are served and on Fridays and Saturdays a more extensive lunch menu as well as dinners are rolled out by Chef Marco van Rooyen. Marco is applying the skills acquired at Babylonstoren to the benefit of Overberg diners.
An international flavour runs through the Rivendeli menu choices and descriptions and can be traced to owners Heimo and Maria Thalhammer’s Austrian roots. Bavarian favourites such as Kaese Spaetzle – a twist on Mac & Cheese – are given a slight South African twist to add more mouth watering goodness.
Rivendell is part of the Bot River Wine Route and also offers pensioner’s discounts on Wednesdays and family days – mainly on Sundays – where children are entertained. Two more family days will be hosted on 17 and 20 December 2017. These child friendly activities will be reconsidered for the new year and dates will be announced.
I was treated to a glass of Rivendell Sauvignon Blanc crafted by an old Bot River wine hand Kobie Viljoen. This fresh white paired well with the Summer Salad that was accompanied by freshly baked bread rolls. Next time you are in the Bot River area consider Rivendell as a great stop to break a road trip and revive energies.
