Hermanus has mild weather. The cooling influence of the Atlantic Ocean provides the perfect aircon to our Hemel-en-Aarde vineyards. But then you get days like today when its HOT. We’re talking 30 degrees plus. No wind.
I finished my Onrus Cliff Path walk by 7 and changed my trainers for sandals – after a shower and a generous application of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid. Sunscreen lathered on nose, short sleeves and I’m ready. On days like these I like to stay in the water or very close to the water. You can get no closer to the salty Walker Bay waves than sitting at Bientang’s Cave chomping calamari with sips of Sauvignon Blanc or my favourite – Chardonnay. On the rocks of Bientangs I am quickly overtaken by the holiday vibe. Relaxed and recharged in no time.
From Bientangs it is a hop, skip and jump to the Marine Hotel’s tidal pool. I can think of nothing better than immersing my head in the coolness of the water with nature’s foam crackling like rice krispies. Just before I suffer tranquillity comatose its time to head up the stairs for a cocktail at The Marine.
