A spot went open and voila… I’m walking the CapeNature Whale Trail. Part of a group of 12 we will all meet up in De Hoop Nature Reserve on Monday 26 March. This Overberg hiking route has been listed as one of South Africa’s top 3 hiking trails and covers 55km of Overberg landscape. It goes like this…
Day One: Check in at Potberg.
Day Two: Walk from Potberg to Cupidoskraal. It’s 14,7km and 611m above sea level. The highest point of the route.
Day Three: Cupidoskraal to Noetsie. Again 14kms leading to the Indian Ocean.
Day Four: A relaxing 8km walk along the coastline. Maybe a swim?
Day Five: Hamerkop to Vaalkrans. A bit longer. 11kms of hiking again along the coast.
Day Six: Get done already. Last stretch of 7kms from Vaalkrans to Koppie-Alleen. Easy Peasy.
I am all packed. I’ve dusted my camino gear and laid it all out. Check – sleeping bag that I only used once. Check – new buff. Check – Kudu serum. Check – Cape Epic draw string bag. Creation Reserve Pinot Noir 2013. Check Check.
On the way to De Hoop I hope to stop at the Table Cafe in Bredasdrop for a piece of great cake and also buy some reading material at the second hand bookstore Fiksie & Fantasie.
Let the adventure begin! CapeNature states that the Whale Trail is more than a retreat. It’s a total surrender.
And then … passing nr 98 along the main road in Napier????? 😉
