If you can’t get to where the wine is made it is convenient if someone can bring the wine to you. Cellar in the City has done this. They open a variety of South Africa’s best wines every day in the tourism heart of Cape Town – the V&A Waterfront. The options are plentiful. Order a glass, do a tasting of 4 or 6, have a pairing of wine with cheese or charcuterie or both. I was pleased to see my region’s wine well represented. Hemel-en-Aarde Newton Johnson, Creation and Seven Springs were open and waiting to be poured. Ataraxia and Hermanuspietersfontein adorned the shelves making Hermanus one of the most visible wine routes at this city wine bar that was pumping with wine enthusiasts. I can’t think of a better way of getting people to visit the Cape Whale Coast than giving them a taste of the great wines waiting for them.
