Its Hermanus FynArts time and we look forward to 10 days of all things art. Right here in the Overberg. No driving! One of my favourites on the programme is the sculptures on the cliff path. Art and nature interlinked for outdoor appreciation. This year the theme is THE HUMAN FIGURE and Gearing’s Point is the exhibition space.
Below is Mark Chapman’s STOP! This illustrates the humans ambition to control everything. Yet, there is no controlling the ocean. Lets curb the use of plastic and make a difference before it’s too late.
Strijdom van der Merwe is a regular exhibitor at Hermanus FynArts and his red THERE IT IS has a little boy sitting on an adult’s shoulders, pointing over the Walker Bay to where the Southern Rights have just arrived. It’s great to have this land artist back in our hood.
Marco Cianfanelli might be new to FynArts but this dude is an artistic force. Having just been to the Nelson Mandela capture site and still filled with admiration for the 50 steel columns that sculpt Madiba’s face I am proud of the FynArts team for bringing Signore Cianfanelli’s work to Hermanus. Unknowingly I have captured many pics of his work at Spier.
There are more sculptures and more art. Why don’t you come and see for yourself?
