Zwelihle Hermanus

Zwelihle means Place of Beauty and is home to about 40 000 people.  The first people arrived here at the entrance to Hermanus in 1957.

St Patrick School was the first school to be built in 1945. In 1994 this school opened as Lukhanyo Primary.  Literally meaning “a new dawn” Lukhanyo was rebuilt with the help of German missionaries.

Zwelihle is becoming more tourism orientated.  Visitors can stay at a Bed & Breakfast just across the road from Lukhanyo at 22 Makeleni Street, eat at Verona’s Tshisa Nyama and partake in cultural activities organised by the Youth Cafe that has just moved to the RDP Centre in the corner of Kwasa Kwasa Zwelihle. This is where you can have coffee and cake and also where the vibe is at on Third Thursday.
