Weekend Brew

Although Hermanus is known for their quality wines the area is now entering the craft drinks sphere. In neighboring Stanford Birkenhead Brewery was the first to launch into this trendy market. They did so before craft beers became popular. This brau haus offers tastings and their beers are widely available.

Hermanus Old Harbour Brewery has been going for a few years. In this short time they raked in gold medals in 2 consecutive years. They are based in Hermanus Industrial Area but this is essentially a production facility. There is an outside area tented in and the husband and wife dynamo duo behind the brand has hosted many groups including the Stormers. Most eateries have this on tap or on the menu.

Newton Johnson tried their hand at beer brewing and the result was Folk & Goode. Hemel-en-Aarde wineries delivers in same measures as with Pinot Noir when they diversify.

New kid on the block is Hemel-en-Aarde Brewery. Situated close to Wine Village and open 7 days a week in season from 11:00 till 11:00. The beer is currently not produced on site. Fingers crossed for the connections to be done in Feb. Besides tasting beer and drinking coffee or gin there is a menu with choice fare.

Between Hermanus and Stanford is Misty Mountains where they craft more than beer. Also gin, wine and fine thin crust pizzas. A place to stop and stay.

Another new Stanford destination is the Jolly Rooster Fynbos Distillery. Grappa is the main deal but there’s lots more on offer including the Stanford story. This is drinks theatre with owner Gigi firmly in charge of the entertainment.

We guarantee there won’t be regrets when you try any of these Cape Whale Coast drinks stops.
