No better way to start the week than a Hermanus hike with Tim Lundy, accredited mountain guide and qualified first aider. Tim has recently mapped a few trails from Fernkloof Nature to the vineyards of Hemel-en-Aarde wineries under his new business GlamTrails. We started at the Visitor Centre in Fernkloof and walked to the waterfall, a gentle incline through fynbos. The path led to Hamilton Russell Vineyards where a tasting of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir was poured. From here a short and easy stroll to Bouchard Finlayson. More wine. This time a Reserve Sauvignon Blanc and Hannibal, a red blend. We had a squiz at the Hermanus FynArts tondo exhibition in the cellar before heading off to Newton Johnson where we were rewarded for our efforts with a mouthwatering meal prepared by chef Rickey Broekhoven and a wine tasting led by Bevan Newton Johnson. Rickey incorporates seasonal elements foraged on the Newton Johnson property into his servings. It looks as good as it tastes. Glamtrails offers adventure that satisfied my craving for guilt free indulgence in the fine Hemel-en-Aarde vintages and the equally fine fare produced here.
