Home Cooking: Waterblommetjies

A slow simmer on the gas. My third attempt at waterblommetjies. Bought from Maná in Hemel-en-Aarde and picked from a pond in clear sight from where they are sold. This is regional food at its best. Very fresh and tempting but it didn’t come with a recipe card. Call to Mom solved the prob and after the lamb was browned with shallots and then stewed for 40 minutes the washed flowers, lemon zest and cubed potatoes were added. Another slow 40 minutes later and Voila! A hearty Cape meal served on rice made a fitting meal for a winters’ night.

Usual wine pairing suggestion would be Chenin Blanc but as I had none, a glass of Syrah served as a substitute.
