It wasn’t meant to be. Me walking Lighthouse2Lighthouse this year. Last year we just finished the annual 4 day walk along the Overberg coastline when the President announced that South Africa will go into a lockdown. This year regulations did not allow for a March walk and when relaxations were finally tabled there was only going to be a chance to walk in May. Winter. Cold. Dark. Not for me. Yet, it was with a heavy heart that I saw the group of 72 adventurous women off on Thursday morning at The Beanery Hermanus. To be part of such a positive and energetic group of women raising funds for a worthy cause is just such a feel-good.
Visiting on the eve of the second day of the walk definitely helped to lift my spirit. The ladies had a tough time with the route looking very different thanks to recent heavy rains. Suddenly there was a pop-up river beyond Brandfontein that has not been seen in the history of the walk. All were still cheerful and the morning’s motivational talk was a good reminder that we never know how far we are capable of going unless we try.
Already I am so looking forward to the walk in 2022. I can only hope that Vanes-Mari du Toit Proudfoot and staff from the Two Oceans Aquarium can participate in this walk which I will be doing with my sister.
